Somewhere in that thread, one person stopped suggesting things and started organising. That’s you. Half the group is flying in, at least one person has said “down for whatever” without ever picking a date, and the plan resets every time somebody new scrolls back. A private charter fixes the part that’s actually hard: it turns an open argument into one decision with a time attached. You choose a departure, you send one link, and the question everyone is answering changes from “what should we do” to “can you make that time.” People answer the second question. They almost never answer the first.

The boat itself does something to a group, too, and it has nothing to do with the view. Our tiki boat is slow, thatched-roofed and family-first, with bench seating running the rails and fixed shade over all of it, and it carries up to 26 guests. The seats face inward, so there’s no head of the table and no far end — the friend who moved away is sitting a few feet from you rather than across a room. Nobody drifts off to stand somewhere else. For the length of the trip your group is one conversation instead of a scattered handful, which is the actual thing you were after.

What we provide is the boat, the captain and the water, and it’s worth being plain about the rest. There’s no catering, no decorations, no cake, no playlist and no event planner on our end — on a private charter you bring aboard what you like, and your captain will tell you what genuinely travels well out here. Wildlife is wild: dolphins live in this water year-round and often come to the boat, but we never guarantee a sighting. These are the arguments, in the order they actually happen, with a straight answer to each.

“So who’s actually booking this?”

One of you, and it doesn’t have to be the birthday person. A private charter goes on one reservation under one name, so somebody has to be the one who picks a date and puts it down. That is the single most useful thing you can do here, because a charter with a time attached is the only version of the plan that stops moving. Once it’s booked you have something concrete to send — a date, a dock, an hour — and the rest of the thread arranges itself around that. How the group squares up between themselves afterwards is entirely your business and none of ours; we only need one point of contact. “How many of us are we saying?”

Give us the real number rather than the hopeful one, because the head count picks the boat. The tiki boat carries up to 26 guests, which is why it’s the usual answer for a birthday group — slow, shaded, everyone facing everyone. The Island Hopper takes up to 19 and is the one that noses bow-first onto a wild island beach. The center console takes up to 6 and is small and fast, built for fishing and short runs. If your number isn’t one of those three, don’t try to reverse-engineer it off a web page: tell us your head count and we’ll tell you which boat fits. Bigger groups carry their own logistics, and we’d much rather have that conversation before you send the date out than after.

“Afternoon or evening?”

Both are good, they’re genuinely different trips, and this is the one to settle early. An afternoon run is the version where the day goes somewhere — an island beach or a sandbar the tide has just uncovered, time in the water, a slow way back. An evening run is shorter and cooler and mostly about the light on the way home. Two honest notes before you poll anybody. Sunset lands at wildly different hours across the year here, so read the real departure times on the booking calendar for your date instead of guessing. And if somebody in the group wants to walk a shell beach, the tide sets that departure, not your preference — the boat leaves when the water is low, whatever o’clock that turns out to be. Collier County is empty shells only, so take pictures of anything still living in there.

“What are we bringing?”

Whatever you want aboard, within reason, because this is your charter. What we don’t do is supply it: no catering, no cake, no decorations, no flowers, no photographer and no playlist from us. We bring the boat, the captain, the shade and the water, and the rest of the day is yours to fill. Guests bringing their own drinks aboard is a normal, allowed part of a private tiki cruise. The best single move is to ask your captain what actually travels well before you load a car with it, because a deck moves and a countertop doesn’t. Otherwise: soft-soled shoes, sunglasses, hats and reef-safe sunscreen for everybody, a light layer if you’re out late, and a plan for anything you’d hate to watch go over the side.

“Wait — which dock?”

Settle this before anyone books a flight, because our two docks are not near each other. San Marco Marina sits at 604 E Palm Ave in Goodland, a tiny working fishing village on the southeast tip of Marco Island, and it’s the head start into the Ten Thousand Islands — shelling, wild barrier-island beaches with no bridge to them, backwater wildlife. Naples Bay Resort & Marina is at 1500 5th Ave S in Naples, on protected bay water minutes from 5th Avenue South, and it’s where the dolphin, sunset and Port Royal cruises run from. Goodland is roughly 30–40 minutes past Naples by road, so pin the right one in the thread with the full address attached and ask everyone to arrive about ten minutes early.

“What if someone bails?”

Somebody always does, and it changes less than you think. A private charter is booked as one boat and one departure time, so a name coming off the list doesn’t unravel the day for everyone still coming — the boat is the same boat and the hour is the same hour. What we do ask is that you tell us, because your captain wants an accurate head count before you push off. How many people can we bring on a 30th birthday cruise?

That depends on which boat you end up on. The tiki boat carries up to 26 guests, the Island Hopper landing boat takes up to 19, and the center console takes up to 6. If your head count isn’t one of those three numbers, tell us what it actually is and we’ll tell you which boat fits and what’s possible. Give us the real figure rather than the optimistic one — it’s the fastest way to get a straight answer out of us.

Is the boat just our group, or are we sharing it?

A private charter is your group only: your boat, your departure time, and a captain running the day around what you asked for. Our scheduled tours are shared departures sold by the seat, which is fine for a couple of friends but gets awkward for a birthday group that wants to be together. If the entire point is everyone in one place at one time, book the charter.

Can we bring our own food and drinks aboard?

On a private charter, yes — you bring aboard what you like, and guests bringing their own drinks is a normal part of a private tiki cruise. What we don’t do is supply any of it: no catering, no cake, no decorations, no flowers, no photographer, no playlist. Ask your captain what travels well on a boat before you go shopping. A deck moves, and some things that look great on a table don’t survive a wake.

Which dock do we meet at, Goodland or Naples?

It depends on the trip. San Marco Marina at 604 E Palm Ave in Goodland is the jumping-off point for the Ten Thousand Islands, wild island beaches and shelling. Naples Bay Resort & Marina at 1500 5th Ave S runs the dolphin, sunset, Port Royal and private bay cruises. Goodland is roughly 30–40 minutes past Naples by road, so confirm which one is on your booking and send that exact address to everybody.

What if our number changes or somebody drops out?

Tell us as soon as you know, and otherwise don’t panic. You are holding the whole boat rather than a count of seats, so a late drop-out changes who is aboard and nothing else. Your captain simply wants an accurate head count on the day. If the date itself has to move, or the weather turns, call (239) 301-8913 as early as you can and talk it through with a person.

Will we see dolphins?

Often, but nobody can promise it and we never guarantee a sighting. Bottlenose dolphins are wild residents of this water rather than an attraction on a schedule, and they come to a boat when they feel like it. Our captains know the stretches that tend to produce and will run you through them. Birdlife is closer to a sure thing — ospreys, pelicans and herons work the mangrove edges on nearly every trip.
