Why Drive West
The water your neighborhood doesn’t have
Golden Gate Estates stretches for miles of canals, pasture and pine flatwoods — but no navigable Gulf access, so a real boat day means pointing your truck west. From most of the Estates it’s a straightforward drive into downtown Naples or on down to Goodland, and either way you land somewhere the water actually does the work: open Gulf, barrier islands and a horizon instead of a fence line.
From our Naples Bay dock, captains idle past the Port Royal mansions, through dolphin-rich Gordon Pass, and out to roadless Keewaydin Island for shelling and beach time you won’t find on a canal. Head to our Goodland dock instead and you’re at the doorstep of the Ten Thousand Islands, a maze of mangrove keys and remote sandbars where the shelling gets serious and the ruins of Cape Romano wait offshore, half-submerged since Hurricane Ian.
It’s an easy trade: a short drive out of the Estates for a half day where the biggest decision is whether to watch for dolphins off the bow or save your eyes for the sunset. Do you depart from Golden Gate Estates?
No — the Estates is inland with no navigable Gulf access, so we don’t launch from there. Our boats depart from Naples Bay Resort & Marina in downtown Naples and San Marco Marina in Goodland, both a straightforward drive west of the Estates.
How long is the drive from Golden Gate Estates to your dock?
It depends on where in the Estates you’re starting — it’s a large area — but most residents reach our downtown Naples marina in roughly 20 to 30 minutes, or our Goodland dock in about 30 to 40 minutes. Exact directions and parking come with your booking confirmation.
Which dock should we choose, Naples or Goodland?
Naples Bay Resort & Marina puts you closest to the Port Royal mansions, Gordon Pass and Keewaydin Island. Our Goodland dock is the gateway to the wilder Ten Thousand Islands and Cape Romano. Both see dolphins and great sunsets — it comes down to whether you want bay-and-mansion scenery or a deeper wilderness run.
Are dolphins guaranteed?
Wild bottlenose dolphins live in these waters year-round and our captains see them on the great majority of trips, especially around Gordon Pass and through the Ten Thousand Islands. They’re wild animals, so we can’t promise a sighting, but the odds are in your favor.
What’s the best first trip for an Estates family?
A dolphin-and-sightseeing cruise or a sunset cruise is the easiest introduction — calm water, a short trip length and wildlife the kids will love. If your crew wants a beach day, add a shelling or island tour to reach a roadless barrier island.
