The best of Naples boating is a short drive from Vanderbilt Beach
Vanderbilt Beach is one of the prettiest stretches of sand in North Naples — wide, soft and an easy walk from the Ritz-Carlton and the beach’s namesake parking garage, with Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park and Wiggins Pass just up the shoreline. It’s a great beach day. But the barrier islands, wild dolphins and open-Gulf sunset you can’t reach on foot sit on the other side of a boat, not a beach towel — and that boat is a short drive south at our downtown Naples dock.
From Vanderbilt Beach Road it’s roughly a 20-minute drive down Gulf Shore Drive or US-41 to Naples Bay Resort & Marina at 1500 5th Avenue South, our downtown Naples departure. Leave the beach chairs at the condo, grab a coffee on 5th Ave South, and step aboard — no launch, no boat ramp, no rental counter. Your captain has the boat idling and ready, and from the dock it’s a straight run through Naples Bay toward Port Royal and Gordon Pass.
Once you clear the pass you’re in the water Vanderbilt Beach only hints at — wild bottlenose dolphins working the current, the mansions of Port Royal’s Millionaire’s Row, and Keewaydin Island, a roadless barrier island with a shell line the mainland beaches can’t match (empty shells only, as always in Collier County). Stay aboard through golden hour and the open-Gulf sunset beats anything you’ll see from the shore — same coastline, one angle a beach towel can’t reach.

Do your boat tours leave from Vanderbilt Beach?
No — Vanderbilt Beach doesn’t have a tour dock. Our boats depart from Naples Bay Resort & Marina at 1500 5th Avenue South, about a 20-minute drive south, or from San Marco Marina in Goodland for the Marco Island side. Exact directions and parking come with your booking confirmation.
How far is the drive from Vanderbilt Beach to the boat?
It’s roughly 20 minutes down Gulf Shore Drive or US-41 to our downtown Naples dock. Traffic during season can add a few minutes, so we suggest leaving a little early and arriving about 15 minutes before departure.
What will we see that we can’t from Vanderbilt Beach itself?
From the boat you’ll cruise Naples Bay, pass the Port Royal mansions, and run out through Gordon Pass to Keewaydin Island — a roadless barrier island with far better shelling than a drive-up beach. Wild dolphins are common along the way, and a sunset from open Gulf water is hard to match from the shoreline.
Is Vanderbilt Beach good for shelling on its own?
It’s a solid, easy drive-up beach, especially walking north toward Wiggins Pass where the current concentrates the shell line. As with every beach in Collier County, it’s empty shells only. For a bigger haul, a boat trip to a boat-only island like Keewaydin usually beats any beach you can park at.
Are dolphins visible near Vanderbilt Beach?
Wild bottlenose dolphins live in these waters year-round and are occasionally spotted from shore, but your best chance is from the boat near Gordon Pass, where the current concentrates bait fish and the dolphins follow. Sightings aren’t guaranteed, but they’re common on our Naples trips.
