Sizing the Day
Start with the head count, not the itinerary
The hard part of a 50th is rarely the idea. It’s the list. A spouse. Adult children, and whoever they’re bringing. In-laws who assumed they were invited and were right. Two people from work. Every place you might book wants a number, and the number you have is a guess that will change twice more before the date. Out here the count works differently: a boat has a capacity, and a capacity is a hard line rather than a figure you can nudge. That is the constraint that finally settles the argument. For the general version at any age, start with our birthday cruises page — this one is only about sizing the day to your number.
So start with the boats. Three of ours carry a fixed guest count and it does not bend: the tiki boat takes up to 26 under a thatched roof, the Island Hopper takes up to 19 and runs its bow onto island sand, and the center console takes up to 6 for the fast, small version of the day. We run pontoons as well, and which one suits you depends on your count and your dock, so we won’t print a number for them here — tell us your head count and we’ll tell you what fits. Book any of them as a private charter and the whole boat is yours, with nobody else in the seat count.
Two docks, and they are not interchangeable, so get the right address into the group message early. San Marco Marina, 604 E Palm Avenue in Goodland, is the head start into the Ten Thousand Islands — shelling and wild beaches with no bridge to them. Naples Bay Resort & Marina, 1500 5th Avenue South, handles dolphin, sunset and Port Royal cruises, and Goodland sits a good 30 to 40 minutes past Naples by road. As for the day itself: we bring the boat, the captain and the water. Decorations, cake, catering, flowers, music and photographs are yours to arrange. Bring aboard what you like, and ask your captain what actually travels well on a boat before you buy it.
- Three fixed numbers: 26 on the tiki, 19 on the Island Hopper, 6 on the console
- A private charter is your group only — nobody else in the count
- Goodland for the islands, Naples Bay for the bay — 30–40 minutes apart by road
- Number still unsettled? Tell us the range and we’ll tell you what fits
